Background
Hello, I’m Annwen. I’ve lived in Somerset West since 2015 and founded Thrive in 2017. I worked in the corporate green sector for several years, managing large commercial landscapes, before shifting my focus to my own practice and residential work.
For the past decade, I’ve worked almost exclusively in the Helderberg. This local focus gives me a good, practical understanding of local conditions, from our clay soil and harsh summer wind to the plant combinations that thrive here. It has also meant building long-term relationships with local service providers, which supports well-managed installation work.
Approach
Projects are approached with a preference for long-term relationships with clients. I provide personal oversight from design through to installation and ongoing management. Remaining present throughout the build allows me to guide the garden’s evolution, making considered adjustments as the landscape settles and matures.
My work is guided by close attention to both my clients and the environmental context of each site, resulting in gardens that meet practical and aesthetic needs, support local ecology, and integrate naturally with the Helderberg landscape.
